Ragi Apple Crumble

 

Ingredients

For the Apple Filling

• Apples – 3 medium (peeled, cored & thinly sliced)
• Jaggery powder – ¼ cup (or brown sugar)
• Cinnamon powder – ½ tsp
• Nutmeg powder – a pinch (optional)
• Lemon juice – 1 tsp
• Butter / coconut oil – 1 tbsp
For the Crumble Topping
• Ragi flour (finger millet flour) – ½ cup
• Rolled oats – ½ cup
• Whole wheat flour – ¼ cup
• Jaggery powder – ¼ cup
• Cold butter / coconut oil – 3 tbsp
• Chopped nuts (walnuts/almonds) – 2 tbsp
• Salt – a pinch


Method

Step 1: Prepare the Apple Filling

1. Heat a pan and add butter/coconut oil.
2. Add apple slices, jaggery, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
3. Cook on low heat for 5–6 minutes until apples turn soft and caramelized.
4. Transfer to a greased baking dish.


Step 2: Make the Crumble Topping

1. In a mixing bowl, combine ragi flour, oats, wheat flour, jaggery powder, chopped
nuts, and salt.
2. Add cold butter and rub it with your fingers until the mixture looks crumbly (like
coarse sand).


Step 3: Assemble & Bake

1. Spread the crumble topping evenly over the apple filling.
2. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 25–30 minutes or until the top is
golden and crisp.


Step 4: Serve

• Let it cool slightly before serving.
• Best enjoyed warm.

• Serve with vanilla ice cream or chilled custard for indulgence.
• Can also be enjoyed plain with a drizzle of honey or maple syrup.
• Great for family dinners or festive gatherings.
